Why selling gold by post can cost you a packet!
Everyone wants your gold these days. If you believe what you see on TV you can take your pick of companies who will arrange for you to send your gold by post and then make you an offer you can't refuse. And if you're not happy with the price, you can get your item back no problem.
Time for a reality check. Will you really get a good deal? And how easy is it to get your gold back if you're not happy?
Money Shop customer Vicky Wesley knows the answers. Looking to raise some cash on gold she no longer needed she raided her jewellery box and sent several items including rings, necklaces and a half sovereign to one of the postal gold companies advertising on TV.
They sent her a cheque for just £42.
She refused it and after a number of phone calls they raised their offer, first to £116 and then finally £164. In the meantime Vicky had a chat with the manager of her local Money Shop store at Dinnington near Sheffield who advised her to ask for her gold back as The Money Shop could offer her a much better deal. It took around twelve weeks for Vicky to get her gold back despite many, many phone calls. When it eventually arrived she took it into the Dinnington store.
Vicky takes up the story:
"Based on the previous offers I'd had I was hoping The Money Shop could offer me maybe £250. They weighed my gold on the spot and then the manager, Nicola, asked me if I wanted a seat. I wondered why until she offered me £561. I was absolutely gobsmacked".
Vicky walked out of the store with cash in her hand and a huge smile on her face. She's since been back to the store with other gold items and is telling all her friends about The Money Shop.
Manager Nicola Parker explains:
"When a customer brings their gold in to us we can assess it very quickly based on its weight and its purity. We then make an offer, in cash, face to face. We think we offer the best prices around but if the customer decides not to accept, they can just walk out with their gold. It's that simple".
Based on Vicky's experience, selling gold by post could cost you a packet and a load of hassle compared to the great prices and service on offer at The Money Shop.
So if you have gold to sell, don't just hope for the best. Come and see us first!
