The Money Shop waives fees for money transfers to quake-hit Turkey
The Money Shop is using its network of 420-plus stores to help victims of the massive earthquake which hit parts of eastern Turkey on October 23.
The short-term lender, which offers financial services including money transfer facilities through Western Union, is waiving the fee for customers wiring money to Van in eastern Turkey via Western Union, until November 25.
The death toll has already exceeded 500 and thousands are homeless after the 7.2-magnitude quake. Several days after the disaster, deliveries of tents and aid supplies were getting through but relief efforts were being hampered by rain and snow.
Marketing director Andew Bryan said: "Many people will have relatives back in Turkey, for example, who need cash desperately so they can start to rebuild their lives.
"This is one way that our chain of stores is able to help."
Customers must specify they are sending to Van to qualify for the zero fees and can send money in US dollars or euros.
The Money Shop's network of stores has previously been used to raise cash for the Japanese tsunami and floods in Pakistan.
