Money Shop staff join Forces for Help for Heroes
Staff from the Hull store of payday loan provider The Money Shop proved to be a fund-raising force to be reckoned with after they teamed up with members of the Yorkshire Transport Regiment.
Squadron members from the 150(Y) Transport Regiment helped Money Shop staff raise more than £120 during the Hull Christmas lights switch on. The initiative is part of a company-wide bid to raise £250,000 for military charity Help for Heroes by the end of 2012.
The funds were raised by collecting cash and selling Help for Heroes merchandise such as wristbands. The Money Shop's mascot Smee, also helped to raise a smile along with the cash in the lead up to the big Christmas switch on.
Hull store manager, Steve Greenley said: "We're pleased to have started the ball rolling with the Money Shop's fund-raising efforts on behalf of Help for Heroes. Helping servicemen and servicewomen injured as a result of serving their country is a cause well worth getting behind. We'd like to thank everyone who contributed on the day."
The Money Shop, part of Dollar Financial UK, is backing Help for Heroes as a result of a company-wide vote earlier in the year.
Help for Heroes has raised more than £117m since its launch in October 2007. All funds raised to date have been allocated or spent on direct, practical support for those wounded, sick or injured in current conflicts.
Help for Heroes is also working in partnership with the Ministry of Defence and the Royal British Legion, to deliver the Defence Recovery Capability - a comprehensive pathway to help wounded, injured and sick troops.
The charity is committing £157m, part of which includes the creation of five regional personnel recovery centres, in Colchester, Catterick, Tidworth, Plymouth and Edinburgh to provide ongoing training and support for the wounded after Headley Court.
