The Money Shop kicks off national fundraising campaign with festive-inspired events in Hull and Glasgow
Payday loan provider, The Money Shop pledged earlier this month to raise £250,000 by the end of 2012 for the Help for Heroes charity. The decision to partner with Help for Heroes came from a company-wide vote earlier in the year.
At the start of the month (November) Money Shop staff were asked to submit regional ideas for fundraising. With Christmas less than six weeks away, The Money Shop stores in Hull and Glasgow have kick-started the proceedings with two suitably festive-inspired events to help raise money in their areas.
The Money Shop staff in Glasgow will be hosting a charity red tie and dress Christmas ball at the Stairway, Union Street on Friday December 2 at 7pm. Tickets will be charged at £5 and VIP tickets at £10. Glasgow blues band, Whisky River will be providing the entertainment for the expected large turnout and the venue has forgone its hire fee so all proceeds will be donated to Help for Heroes.
Mark Farrell, Glasgow store manager said, "Everyone loves to get dressed up for a night. What better reason than to raise money for this fantastic charity.
"It's such a great cause and it's a pleasure to organise this event. The charity helps thousands of injured soldiers. It is essential we show our support and appreciation for these brave men and women."
Meanwhile, south of the border, Money shop staff in Hull will be attending the Christmas lights switch-on on Thursday November 24 to sell Help for Heroes merchandise and circulate the crowds with collection boxes.
Hull store manager, Steve Greenley said, "We'll be out and about from 2pm hoping to catch larger-than-usual crowds.
The work carried out Help for Heroes is amazing, helping servicemen and servicewomen who are suffering as a result of serving their country."
Help for Heroes has raised more than £100m since its launch in October 2007. All funds raised to date have been allocated or spent on practical support of those wounded, sick or injured in the line of duty since 9/11.
The Money Shop, part of Dollar Financial UK, joins the likes of Tesco, Vauxhall and Deloitte as corporate supporters along with a host of stars including Robbie Williams, Simon Cowell, Pixie Lott and David Beckham.
Help for Heroes is also working in partnership with the Ministry of Defence and the Royal British Legion, to deliver the Defence Recovery Capability - a comprehensive pathway to help wounded, injured and sick troops.
The charity is committing £90m, part of which includes the creation of five regional personnel recovery centres, in Colchester, Catterick, Tidworth, Plymouth and Edinburgh to provide ongoing training and support for the wounded after Headley Court.
