The Money Shop gets a festive thank-you... all the way from Afghanistan
Troops in Afghanistan have delivered a personal thank-you message for festive gifts sent by Dollar Financial UK's pawnbroking head office in Nottingham.
Letters from Camp Bastion in Helmand Province have been received by pawnbroking assistants Tina Austin and Cassy Sawford after they collected presents for serving troops.
One letter sent to Tina said: "I really appreciate the fact that people like you and your colleagues remember me at this moment... from the depth of my heart, I want to say big thanks."
Another said it was comforting for troops to learn that people back home cared about them enough to put together the gift sets.
Tina said: "I found out about the guys in question through a friend whose son is serving in Afghanistan.
"I asked everyone in my department to get involved and the response was fantastic. Some donated cash for gifts while others gave food, traditional gifts and toys - including a remote-controlled helicopter. Someone even gave us an all-in-one panda suit!
"Our guys are out in Afghanistan doing a fantastic job and we need to remind them of the massive support they have back here in the UK."
The collection, which generated enough for seven parcels, was in addition to the company's Help for Heroes Christmas stocking appeal to provide gifts for troops recovering in the UK.
Tina is one of The Money Shop's Help for Heroes champions, helping staff raise £250,000 by the end of 2012.
Help for Heroes has raised more than £117m since its launch in October 2007 for practical support for servicemen and servicewomen wounded, sick or injured in the line of duty.
